About the Work
The Misdemeanor Justice Project seeks to understand the criminal justice response to low-level offenses, from arrest to disposition. Striving to provide an empirical framework to data-driven policy initiatives at local, state, and national levels aimed at improving society’s response to these offenses, the Misdemeanor Justice Project is fully committed to working with criminal justice practitioners to obtain accurate data, provide objective analyses, and disseminate our findings to key stakeholders in the community, scholars, and policy-makers to spur a national discourse on the effectiveness and fairness of law enforcement and criminal justice responses to low-level offenses.
Social Ink proudly presents the all-new web platform for the Misdemeanor Justice Project, a critical new research initiative at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
During their research, MJP collected millions of lines of data on misdemeanors in the five boroughs of New York City. Social Ink helped MJP place downloadable data interactives on the site, allowing users to tailor a data snapshot of summonses depending on the counties or years on which they choose to focus. Other key features of the site include advanced filtering, a curated news and media section and downloadable pdfs of research publications. The site’s responsive design ensures users have an easy time viewing the data on most phones, tablets, and larger monitors.
We wish the Misdemeanor Justice Project the very best as they launch the Research Network of jurisdictions beyond New York City. Social Ink is proud to have designed and developed this platform for MJP and continue our work on websites for academics and researchers.
